World Water Day 2025: Conserving Water in our Homes and Communities

20 March 2025
2 mins

Every year on March 22nd, World Water Day takes place, which is an important reminder of the value of water and the need for us to all to manage this precious resource wisely.  At Platform, we’re marking the day by helping to raise awareness about this important issue.

We’re committed to helping our customers adopt sustainable water-saving practices that have the dual benefit of helping the environment whilst also saving money.

What is Water Conservation?

Water conservation is using water efficiently to reduce unnecessary water usage.

Why does Water Conservation Matter?

Water is essential for life, yet water scarcity is a growing issue.  The average UK citizen uses 140 litres of water a day and it is estimated that our demand will outstrip the supply of freshwater by 40% by 2030*. However, by making small changes in our daily routines, we can collectively make a big impact on water conservation.

Simple Ways to Save Water at Home

Here are some easy and effective ways to reduce water consumption:

  • Fix Leaks Promptly: A dripping tap can waste thousands of litres of water annually. Report any leaks in your home or communal areas immediately.
  • Use Water-Efficient Appliances: Where possible, choose low-flow showerheads and water-efficient washing machines to minimise water waste.
  • Turn Off Taps: When brushing your teeth or washing dishes, turn off the tap to save water each day.
  • Shorten Showers: Reducing your shower time by just a few minutes can save significant amounts of water over time.
  • Collect Rainwater: If you have a garden, use rainwater collection systems to water plants instead of using tap water.

Our Commitment to Water Sustainability

At Platform we’re taking steps to proactively manage water efficiency within our homes by:

  • Carrying out regular maintenance to prevent leaks
  • Encouraging water-saving habits among our customers through awareness campaigns
  • Implementing water-efficient technologies for our housing developments

Get Involved!

World Water Day is an opportunity for us to be mindful of our water use and to consider what actions we can all make to reduce our water consumption.

If you are a Platform customer, please join us in making small water conservation changes that can make a big difference!
