New Retirement Village enhances mental and physical wellbeing in Grounds Week
A new 80 apartment Retirement Village is breaking ground by enhancing customers quality of life with the outdoor environment on this national Grounds Week 2025.
We're nearing completion of our newest Retirement Village, Cathedral Park in Holmer, Hereford and the Grounds team are ensuring the outdoor spaces are welcoming for customers and community with green space, shrub beds, trees and wildflower areas for biodiversity.
Customers will be able to manage their own plants and grow vegetables in the greenhouse and raised planters as part of the social activities and help with the prevention of isolation.
Paving has been designed around the outside of the whole village for customers to ensure easy and equal access for those in wheelchairs or with disability aids and benches will be installed at regular intervals. Covered pergolas with seating, a sensory area, and a large patio seating area will be a feature in the design to allow all customers access to the outside space for their quality of life, mental and physical well-being.
Bird and bat boxes will be installed to encourage wildlife and help them thrive.
Marion Duffy, Chief Operations Officer at Platform Housing Group said: “We are looking forward to seeing this vision come to life and are proud to be able to help towards the biodiversity at the same time as ensuring our customers have access to green spaces and an independent lifestyle.”
Cathedral Park offers 80 one- and two-bedroom apartments with age friendly features for rent focussed on supporting an independent lifestyle. The village boasts a village hall, meeting/venue rooms, a shop, cafe, hairdressing salon and mobility vehicle storage.
