Community fun day raises funds for urban farm
The team of volunteers at Epperstone Court in Nottingham donated money from a table top sale and BBQ to Stonebridge City Farm and Gardens, a charity and urban farm in the heart of the city.
Organised by the scheme’s Residents Committee, the event also welcomed members of the local community.
Hayley Murphy, our Retirement Living Operations Manager said: “This was our very first community fun day at Epperstone Court and it was a real success, so much so that we aim to make it an annual event. The social committee works tirelessly for the wider community and has been fundamental in raising funds for local charitable causes such as The Dementia Choir, NHS Charitable Trust and the RNLI. We would like to thank all those who were involved and look forward to the next one!”
The committee decided to fundraise for Stonebridge City Farm as some of its members regularly visit it with their family and friends. The farm – which is run by volunteers – provides much needed employment and work experience for disabled and vulnerable community members and relies solely on donations to exist.
The farm also provides training and education for the community and visitors as well as offering multiple volunteering opportunities for all skill levels. Infact, it supports more than 150 volunteers every week, many of whom have mental health challenges and learning disabilities.
It includes a wide range of animals, a play area and a cafe and shop. In its gardens, seasonal plants, produce and herbs are grown. It is free to enter in order to remain accessible to all, although it encourages donations to help run it.
Some of the monies raised on the day will go towards subsidising this year’s Christmas dinner for those who are unable to afford the full cost.
Epperstone Court comprises of 87, one and two bedroom apartments in West Bridgford.
