Fire Safety for High Rise Buildings

We carry out a range of work, safety checks, and independent inspections to help keep our customers and buildings as safe as possible.

It is on all of us, Platform, colleagues, and customers, to understand why building safety checks are done and what you can do to help keep you, your family, and other customers safe in your home.

If you live in a tall building, you may refer to it as a tower block, high rise, apartment block, or block of flats.  When these buildings are over 18 meters tall, we refer to them as high-rise buildings, and Platform Housing Group owns five of these.

High Rise Buildings

High Rise buildings have specific legal requirements for us to manage as a landlord including increased checks and detailed assessments by structural and fire engineering specialists.

Our high rise buildings are registered with the Building Safety Regulator (who are part of the Health and Safety Executive).  The building names and their registration numbers are provided below:

Building Safety Team

We have a dedicated Building Safety Team and Building Safety Manager for high rise buildings and bespoke resident engagement strategies.  Your Building Safety team’s role is to keep you, your family, and neighbours safe and informed about the building you live in.

Building Safety Events

Our high rise event calendar will show when we will run campaigns, send out news bulletins, hold events and meetings to talk about building and fire safety. In 2025, we will hold regular meetings and drop-in sessions where you can meet your Building Safety Team and other PHG representatives.

These meetings are a great chance to talk about building safety, share any fire safety concerns, and learn more about how to stay safe.

Building Safety Resident Engagement Strategies

We have bespoke Building Safety Engagement Strategies for keeping people safe in our high rise buildings. We created these strategies by consulting directly with the people who live there. These strategies tell you how to engage and communicate with Platform about safety, how to report any changes, and they also explain what we are doing to identify and manage safety risks.

Mandatory Occurrence Reporting

We have developed a Mandatory Occurrence Reporting (MOR) procedure to ensure significant safety occurrences are reported in the correct way.  The MOR explains the roles and responsibilities when a safety issue happens. It shows how to report, document, check, and share these issues.

Our contractors can report problems from the building they are working in, or residents can report them too. These reports go into a system that tells the Fire Safety Team right away. The reports are also reviewed in weekly site meetings when planned works are being undertaken.

All occurrences are escalated to the Building Safety Group to see if they need to be reported to higher authorities such as the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).  Sometimes, experts like structural engineers, fire engineers and/or assessors are asked for advice. All reports are recorded by the Building Safety Group to keep track of any safety concerns

We are working to make sure this procedure is used for all of our high rise buildings.
