We have recently welcomed Sara Waller as a Non Executive Director and Chair of the Assets and Sustainability Committee.

This latest appointment will further strengthen our governance by adding to the Board’s existing diverse and robust commercial experience.

Sara started her career as a civil and structural engineer with Arup, before moving into project and technical leadership roles on international development and infrastructure projects, latterly working at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.  Sara’s other roles included being part of the leadership team at Southwark Council, initiating and driving transformation in the borough.

Over the last nine years, Sara has been in executive leadership roles, in both the public and private sectors, including a period as the Strategic Director of Sustainable Growth and Opportunity at Lambeth Council.  Most recently, Sara has been working with SNG Housing Association leading on work to establish its regeneration business. Sara – who lives in central London – is also has a Non Executive Director and Deputy Chair of Camden Living Housing Association.

Sara said: “Platform has a great reputation and a strong Board, with a clear focus on addressing the challenges of its existing homes.  Before joining the Board, I could see there was an opportunity to learn a lot as well as offer a lot.  Organisational leadership is all about the relationship between the Board and the executive team and I see gaining experience at Board level as an important part of my own leadership journey.”

Elizabeth Froude, our Chief Executive Officer said: “We are delighted to welcome Sara to our Board.  She brings with her strong technical and subject matter expertise in assets, sustainability, regeneration, place and development, political and local government understanding as well as energy and intellectual capability.  Continuous development of our business critical areas is crucial to ensure we meet the needs of our customers, partners and stakeholders.  The appointment of Sara is all part of our plan and will help us to move successfully into the future.”

Sara concluded: “I am delighted to join Platform and play a key role in providing good quality homes for our customers.  Platform and other housing associations are incredibly important in rising to the challenge of delivering homes for the most vulnerable, as well as affordable homes for young people.  The sector as a whole continues to grapple with meeting increasing regulatory requirements, against a backdrop of post war built housing of mixed, and in many instances, very poor quality.  I look forward to being part of a team who are driven to make a difference.”
