Residents to create community garden
Green fingered residents at a block of flats in Leicester will use funds granted to them to transform their communal garden.
Customers at Cademan Court in Leicester applied to our Community Chest to request financial help to develop the area.
The grant comes from a funding pot for our customers and local charities, clubs and not-for-profit organisation; applications are welcomed if their work or project directly benefits our customers. All applications are assessed against specific eligibility criteria by customers who sit on our Customer Voice Panel.
The funding will help to purchase wildflowers and shade loving plants and create a woodland feel that attracts wildlife. It will also fund 2 raised beds where residents can grow fruits and vegetables that are shared amongst the community.
Resident Steve Clough – who was instrumental in securing the funding – said: “We are thrilled to have been awarded this grant from Platform Housing Group. When the communal garden is complete next spring it will offer us so many benefits, from helping residents with both their mental and physical health to encouraging gentle exercise, growing plants, fruits and vegetables, as well as giving us an increased sense of pride in our environment.”
Marion Duffy, our Chief Operations Officer said: “We are delighted to support this project; bringing communities together in a shared endeavour can provide a real boost for those taking part, offering them the chance to do something positive and really enjoy the fruits of their labour!”
