Leicestershire students join in a craft morning at retirement living scheme

Residents at one of our retirement living schemes in Leicestershire were recently joined by a group of local school children for a craft morning.
Residents from Arkwright House in Broughton Astley were visited by Year 9 students from Thomas Estley Community College in the village.
Tracy Ault, our Community Engagement Officer who organised the session said: “This event was a journey for both residents and pupils. Although the students were nervous at the outset, it turned into such an enjoyable morning for all those who took part. The students really gained in confidence and were happily chatting away as they enjoyed creating and crafting. We are planning more such events in the coming months to build both confidence and friendships.”
Cathy Cornelius, Vice Principal at Thomas Estley Community College said: “We were delighted to be part of such a worthwhile event. As a school we take great pride in giving back to our local community; this particular initiative also reaped rewards for our young people who thoroughly enjoyed meeting the residents. Thank you to all those who made it such a success.”
The event helped raised money for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity and our corporate charity for 2024 to 2025.
Thomas Estley Community College is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, catering for students aged 11 to 16 and is part of The Success Academy Trust.
