The High Sheriff of Worcestershire has recognised a help centre in Worcestershire.

The Help Centre Malvern Town was awarded a High Sheriff Award by the current High Sheriff for the county, Andrew Manning-Cox at a special ceremony last month.

The centre is a one stop shop which helps our customers get intouch with us through our Live Chat and Portal facilities, as well as with basic IT skills and signposting.  It also offers advice on preventing homelessness, looking for work, debt advice and health and wellbeing.

The award was presented to our Digital Empowerment Officer Tim Marsh and Matt White, Wellbeing and Life Skills Advisor from Unity, a project that provides support and guidance on skills, wellbeing, training and employment.

The award recognised the valuable services the weekly help centre offers to the local community as well as recognising the appreciation of residents in enhancing life within the community.

In the first three quarters of 2024/25, more than 900 people benefitted from the services provided.  Examples include our Community Engagement Officer Nicholas Richardson working with local councillor Beverley Nielsen to arrange for dropped tactile kerbs to be installed, decreasing the risk of falls for those disabled customers using scooters and ultimately giving them better access to engage in outdoor activities.

Chris Reed, our Community Investment Project Manager said: “We were really humbled to receive this prestigious award from the High Sheriff.  Providing help and support to our communities is a vital part of the service we provide; it is an award that recognises our commitment to them and one which we are proud to receive.  We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our partners who make this possible.”

The Help Centre is delivered by us in partnership with a variety of organisations including the local police, Homes for Ukraine Liaison Officers, Maggs Day Centre, Unity, the Mayor of Malvern, Malvern Town Football Club and Citizens Advice.

The High Sheriff of Worcestershire Awards recognise the work of individuals, community groups and voluntary organisations within Worcestershire.

The office of High Sheriff is an independent, non political Royal appointment; after the monarchy, it is the oldest secular office in the county, dating back to before the Norman Conquest.  Today the role is now largely ceremonial but carries the status of being the King’s highest judicial officer in the county.  The role involves a mix of ceremonial, charitable and community functions.
