As strike action continues to affect waste collection services across Birmingham, our colleagues stepped up to offer much needed support to communities experiencing disruption.

On Wednesday 16 April, a team of more than 30 Estates colleagues volunteered their time to help remove waste from affected neighbourhoods, providing relief to areas where rubbish has been building up.  Working with 14 vehicles, including tippers, flatbeds and trailers, the team visited multiple areas across the city including B10, B13, B14, B16, B18, B27, B30, B31, B32, B33, B36, B44, B45 and B73.

The initiative was coordinated by our Estates team, with additional support from colleagues across the organisation.  Their combined effort made a noticeable impact in helping to reduce the effects of the industrial action on residents.

Nicola Chamberlain, our Head of Estates said: “We understand how frustrating the current disruption has been for many people across Birmingham.  Our colleagues were proud to do what they could to support our local communities and help improve the environment in some of the hardest hit areas.”

The group included operational staff and planners and is just one example of how we remain committed to supporting the areas in which we operate, not only through our core services but also by stepping in when help is needed most.
